Professor Fiona Gilbert

 

Professor Fiona Gilbert MBChB, FRCP (Ed), FRCP (Glas), FRCR, a graduate of Glasgow University is Head of the Department of Radiology, University of Cambridge. Prior to that she held the chair of Radiology at Aberdeen University and led the Aberdeen Biomedical Imaging Centre. 

Her research interests are in using functional imaging techniques to better understand the tumour microenvironment and she assesses new imaging technologies for patient benefit. She is running a large trial of stratified screening in women with dense breasts. She has published over 200 peer review papers and holds grants from Cancer Research UK, the Health Technology Board and the Medical Research Council. Her clinical expertise is in breast imaging. She was past chair of the British Society of Breast Imaging, past Chair of the NCRI Imaging subgroup, and past Chair of the Royal College of Radiology Academic committee. She is an NIHR Senior Investigator and vice president of the European Society of breast Imaging.
